ABOUT RICHARD LONG

Richard McCord Long was born on December 17, 1927, and was an American actor best known for his leading roles in Bourbon Street Beat (Rex Randolph), The Big Valley (Jarrod Barkley), and Nanny and the Professor (Professor Everett). His film career began in 1947 when he co-starred with Claudette Colbert and Orson Wells in Tomorrow is Forever. He also played Tom Kettle, the eldest son in the Ma and Pa Kettle movies.

Richard served in the U.S. Army for two years in the Korean War. He married Suzan Ball on April 11, 1954, but Suzan tragically lost her life to cancer just 14 months later. Richard married again (Mara) and had 3 children: Carey, Valerie, and Gregory.

When Richard was a young boy, he contracted pneumonia which led to a weakened heart. He passed away from a heart attack at the young age of 47 in December 1974.
